About Us

Dr. Al & Terry Purvis and the Victory Asia ministry team

Al & Terry Purvis were born again, met and married around the ministry of Evangel Assembly (Teen Challenge) in Grande Prairie, Alberta. They involved themselves faithfully in the ministry of the local church and were soon invited by World Mission Continuum to raise money to open a home for orphaned children in Thailand.

After sharing the vision time and again with people all across the Canadian prairies, Al & Terry found themselves compelled to go. They left Canada in March of 1982 with their three children Margaret, Becky, and baby Christopher. Esther was born later in Bangkok.

The El Shaddai Children’s Home was launched through many challenges and miracles and grew to 33 children who have now grown up to become leaders in a new level of ministry.  In 1999, God spoke to Al and Terry to launch an international Bible College in Thailand,

The Purvis family have spent 30 years leading their big adopted family and a growing number of spiritual sons and daughters into servant leadership across Asia.

The ministry now includes apostolic ministry in 10 countries in Asia as well as recruiting trips to Canada, the U.S. and the UK. Victory Bible College International, Thailand and the 7 Weeks in Asia youth missions outreach is training a new generation of missionaries and national leaders.

Ministry Directors

This organization was formed in 1979 by a small group of tenacious Canadians who set out to pioneer a practical and effective ministry in Asia. The founding directors were Harland Hendrickson, Bill Wiess, Norman Labrentz and Ray Bassett.

The current World Mission Continuum board of directors includes Eve Bassett, Mervyn Mediwake, Wayne Boursma, Kent Prestage, Ron den Otter, and Al Purvis.

World Mission Continuum is a registered Canadian charity. Our Canada Revenue Agency status can be viewed at: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/charities/menu-e.html. Search by BN/Registration Number: 889717047RR0001. Our partner offices are charities registered in their respective countries.

Each World Mission Continuum director is a local church pastor or ministry leader. Each one has personally invested in and visited the work in Asia. Together, they give oversight and accountability to this ministry.

The churches we have established across Asia fellowship and function together under the banner of "Victoryasia" (www.victoryasia.com) as a region of nations affiliated with Victory Churches International (www.victoryint.org). We also work in close partnership and vision with The Miracle Channel (link to www.miraclechannel.ca) and other missions-minded ministries.

Ministry Departments

“Continuum Media” is the communications department of World Mission Continuum, launched in 2003 to help communicate God’s Great Commission plan through TV, print and web.

“7 Weeks in Asia” is an extreme missions tour for youth from our sending nations. Each summer small groups of adventurers test their relationship with Jesus in face to face encounters with the greatest needs of our world.

“VBCI Thailand” is an international Bible college offering two-year diplomas and four-year Bachelor degrees while being trained in practical ministry together with other developing leaders from Asia and the west. This experience offers all the things a missionary could wish for; cross cultural training, relationships, and opportunities.

“Church Planting” is an ongoing activity of missionaries and nationals in a growing number of nations across Asia with a mandate to plant church planting movements in as many nations as possible.

“El Shaddai Children’s Home II” is the next generation of abandoned kids being raised up for a great ministry future.

Ministry Finances

World Mission Continuum has experienced an overall increase in donations designated towards special projects, along with a serious decrease in general revenues. Increased efficiency has allowed the ministry to multiply in spite of our financial challenges. World Mission Continuum offices are operated by ministry friends in whatever space is available. To mobilize as many people as possible and increase financial resources into the mission field is an ongoing challenge for everyone involved.

Current home-front plans and activities include mobilizing more people and financial resources into Asia to facilitate the expansion of present work and the establishment of leadership training, church planting, and local church outreach ministries in several more nations.

Ministry Property

In Thailand, we own and maintain two five-story buildings. The Victory Tower houses the ministry headquarters for Asia, the international Bible college, the Thailand ministry office, and our international church.

The Lighthouse is a new building that houses the Bible college students, single missionaries and visiting teams.

The Victory Tower is owned outright by World Ministry Foundation Thailand while the Lighthouse still challenges us with a mortgage of just over $200,000.

Ministry Profile and Future

World Mission Continuum works with apostolic ministries to build God’s Kingdom in the nations of Asia. Father/son Kingdom relationships provide the accountability and empowerment needed to fulfill the Great Commission in a hostile world. This kingdom-minded attitude and the efficient connection between senders and goers has made World Mission Continuum and it’s affiliated ministries one of the most productive Kingdom endeavors in Asia.

Statement of Faith:

In the One true and living God, eternally existing and revealed to us as the Father, Creator of all things; the Son, Jesus Christ, God incarnate; and the Holy Spirit.

In the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, physical ascension, and His soon coming return to this earth in power and glory.

The Holy Scriptures are the inspired and complete revelation of God's will concerning man's salvation.

In water baptism as a public declaration that a believer has died with Christ and risen with Him to a new life of righteousness and authority.
In the unity of all true believers as a universal body of Christ regardless of denominational affiliation.

In the celebration of the Lord's supper as a remembrance of Jesus until He comes again.

In the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit, including the baptism with the Holy Spirit, as an experience distinct from and following the new birth.

Ministry Premise

We believe that Jesus is building His church, not through studies and strategies, but by doubling His anointing through each successive generation – an ever-increasing release of power through the spiritual adoption of sons and daughters.

We believe that the Great Commission requires a life-long commitment to the process of adopting and training disciples in every nation, and requires the functioning together of all the ministry gifts that Jesus has entrusted to His church.
We believe that the Gospel has a global scope and transcends man-made borders and racial, cultural, and religious diversity. The Gospel is for every person, and the responsibility and sacrifice required to fulfill Jesus' commission is intended to be shared corporately among all believers.

World Mission Continuum Missionaries

Each missionary sent by their local church. They raise their own personal support, travel costs, supply their own equipment, and work within the parameters and protection of this ministry leadership. An average of about 20 missionaries work in this ministry while opportunities are available for many more people to answer God's call in Asia.

World Mission Continuum provides missionaries with:

1. Leadership accountability: vision, planning, protection, and pastoral care of missionaries and projects.
2. Administration: NGO facilitation of charitable donations, transferring funds, legal entrance to foreign countries.
3. Fund raising advice, materials and ultimate financial accountability for missionaries.

Sending Churches

All missionaries serving through World Mission Continuum are required to be solid members of a local sending church. They are accepted as missionaries on the recommendation of their local pastor and are contracted with WMC to maintain that home-front relationship and return to that church at the close of their tenure. Sending churches are expected to send and support their best people of proven integrity and abilities and maintain open communication for encouragement and support while their missionaries are on the field.

While on the field, WMC provides leadership and pastoral care for missionaries. Each missionary ministers as an ambassador of their sending congregation while WMC provides the strategies, accountability and efficiency that ensures the sending church will reap abundant fruit to their Great Commission account. In the case of disciplinary problems on the field, the sending church and WMC are committed to implementing solutions and restoration.
